Founder

Rachel Bowen Pittman is the founder of Cultural Insider. She has a unique background that influenced her interest in showing people how to enjoy the world locally:

  • Grew up in Westbury (Long Island), NY, Baltimore, MD and Memphis, TN.
  • Traveled to China, Spain, Belgium, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica and numerous Caribbean countries.
  • Participated, as a youth, in cross-cultural programs: ANYTOWN, a youth diversity camp sponsored by the National. Conference of Christians and Jews; Tennessee’s Governor’s School of International Studies; and Phillips Exeter Academy’s summer program for youth from the United States and around the world.
  • Attended a brief exchange program in Heredia, Costa Rica.
  • Volunteered as an Area Representative for Youth For Understanding, an international youth exchange program.
  • Interned at Nippon Credit Bank, a Japanese bank in New York City for two summers during college.
  • Lived in the international residence hall in college.
  • Served on the advisory council for the Washington Region for Justice and Inclusion: Opening Minds.
  • Enjoys salsa dancing, hiking and cooking, especially eating, ethnic foods.

Rachel is the Director of Member Services at the American Urological Association (AUA). Prior to joining AUA, she worked at City University of New York, American University, Food Marketing Institute, American Bar Association Section of International Law, and Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society.

Rachel received an MBA in Marketing from Johns Hopkins University and a BSBA in International Business from American University. She is married to Jonathan Pittman and lives in the Maryland suburbs outside of Washington, DC.
